About Mesh Marina – Jamaica’s Rising Reggae-Fusion Band
Mesh Marina is a reggae-fusion band from Kingston, Jamaica made up of six members all born and raised in the capital’s vibrant music culture. Formed in April 2025, the band blends authentic reggae roots with global sounds positioning themselves as one of the most exciting new acts to emerge from Jamaica in recent years. At the center is 19-year-old lead vocalist Shennell whose soulful yet modern voice sets the tone for the group. Raised in the Waterhouse community she first honed her craft in her high school band. Writing songs has always been a natural process for her: “I write what’s on my mind that day… it just comes naturally it’s my mood,” she explains. With her voice shaped by influences such as Whitney Houston, Bob Marley and Marcia Griffiths, Mesh Marina delivers a sound that is both contemporary and deeply rooted. The idea for Mesh Marina took shape when Shennell met guitarist Brian Jones in a studio session. He introduced her to Mario Campbell better known as Mario C, a top Jamaican producer and DJ. Together they envisioned a new reggae-fusion sound that could carry Jamaican music to global audiences by incorporating subtle elements from other world genres while staying true to reggae’s core. The band’s debut single “Joke Dem a Joke,” released August 2, 2025, has already made waves. Produced by Mario C on a remake of the classic “Full Up” riddim, the track racked up more than 3 million organic views in less than a month and quickly gained support from both street and radio DJs across Jamaica. Though they have yet to perform live, Mesh Marina has been rehearsing intensively and will launch their first series of shows in October 2025. With 32 songs already recorded and ready for release the band is preparing for a prolific run aiming to not just spark attention but sustain it. Their long-term vision is clear: to headline major festivals across the Caribbean and beyond proving that reggae-fusion can once again take center stage on the global music scene.
